Competitive video gaming draws large audiences and offers significant prize money. Some esports have appeared alongside traditional sports at multi-sport events.

Whether esports should be called “sports” remains debated.

The case for

Esports involve high skill, fast reactions, strategy, teamwork, and intense training. Professional players follow structured schedules and work with coaches.

The case against

Critics argue sport should involve significant physical exertion, and that games owned by companies differ from sports governed by independent federations.

Recognition

Some governments and sports bodies officially recognise esports, while others do not. Definitions vary by country.

Crossover

Traditional sports clubs have invested in esports teams, and sports simulation games connect the two worlds.

Long hours of gaming raise concerns about repetitive strain, posture, and sedentary behaviour. Many teams now include fitness training.

This is general sports information and commentary. Rules, schedules, and records change — check official league, federation, and event sources for the latest details. Consult a qualified coach or medical professional before starting a new training programme.
